Spectrum Talks: Skincare Routines
Hands up who loves skincare! Taking the time to cleanse, moisturise and pamper your skin is so worthwhile. I mean, who doesn’t love silky smooth skin? And when it comes to maintaining that perfect glow, good skincare routines are really the key.
We wanted to find out how skincare has changed during lockdown and Covid-19. Are we wearing less makeup and devoting extra time to nourishing our skin? Or, has stress put our usual skincare routines on the backburner?
Our recent Spectrum Talk dived into the world of skincare. We got product recommendations, inspo for our routines, and tons of insight into how skincare in lockdown looks for all our Spectrum sisters.
Keep reading to find out what we learned.
How Our Skincare Routines Have Changed Since the Pandemic
There’s more interest in skincare now than ever. Don’t believe us? Just check out how many people have been searching for ‘skincare’ in the past 5 years:
That big spike you can see comes in March 2020 – when we went into the first lockdown! And skincare searches have stayed up since then. So, does the fact we’re looking online more for skincare products and advice mean we’re all showing our skin some extra love these days? As it turns out, it’s not that simple.
For some of us, our skincare routines have actually changed for the worse:
Yes. I am finding that I am lazier about my morning routine and not doing as much self-care re: masks. I think I have some pandemic fatigue.

We feel you there!
On the other hand, some of us are finding we have more time to research what works for us.
Yes I spend more time and have invested more in products to target my skin concerns after researching what my skin needs #spectrumTalks

Testing out new products and switching up your skincare routine might feel daunting. Think about it though – with our social lives on pause there’s never been a better time to switch things up! And, you might end up discovering your dream routine.
Are We Wearing Less Makeup?
Your flawless eyeshadow application doesn’t have the same effect on video chat, and you’re probably not going to see anyone on the weekend. Does that mean you’re packing away your makeup kit altogether?
A lot of you said your makeup use has changed during lockdown.
I’m definitely not wearing as much makeup. Only 1-2 days per week now, as compared to 5 days per week prior.

I’m an occasion wearer, so most days I’m bare faced. I have been trying to focus more on my skin due to mask-ne ! I’ve deff noticed a difference in an active routine than not doing anything at all.

Giving your skin a chance to breathe and sticking to regular skincare routines can really give you results! For some of us though, it’s not an option to indulge in better skincare.
No cause I am front line worker lol so everything's more hectic I think I am not looking after it as much as I should

Ultimately, it’s about finding a solution that works for you. If you’re stressed and short on time, investing in hero products that are quick to use and kind on skin is well worth it.
What Do Our Skincare Routines Look Like?
When it comes to routines, we’re all a little unique – but we found the most popular skincare routine has three stages:
- Cleanse
- Tone
- Moisturise
Q+A cleansing balm
— Abby x💗 (@AbbyWeatherleyy) February 16, 2021
Simple micellar water
Simple moisturiser 🧴
Make up remover
— Deanna Troi 🖖🏻💛 (@miniabbysciuto) February 16, 2021
Facial scrub (usually once a week)
Cleanser
Clay mask (once a week)
Facial tonic
Moisturiser or moisturising face mask
Adding in exfoliating products and little luxuries like overnight masks was really popular too, and we’re with you there – treat yourself!
Which Type of Skincare Could We Not Do Without?
In all our skincare routines, there’s always a favourite step – a product that leaves you feeling absolutely amazing. And we’ve got to say, we were synced up with this one! Serums are by far the most popular choice for our Spectrum babes.
I love serums as they make your skin feel so lovely #SpectrumTalks

Serum! It makes my skin feel plump. 🥰
— Deedee Starts Fresh (@fatkidforevs) February 16, 2021
I love serums but ones that dry and aren't oily.

Also getting some love were cleansing balms, facial tonics and cleansing oils.
What are Your Favourite Skincare Products?
We love it when you give us product recommendations! And wow you didn’t disappoint this time. There were so many different products in the spotlight – and some were new to us.
Essano creme cleanser and Jumiso yes I'm toner

CeraVe Healing Ointment. It is something that is extremely soothing and helps to seal in moisture, while repairing the natural moisture barrier. It can heal chapped skin in a couple of hours.

Natio Mosturiser is really good and I love the makeup revolution hyloronic face mask (I use it as a moisturiser) and clique moisture bomb. I just love anything moisturising lol
