Spectrum Talks: Christmas Shopping
Have you been naughty or nice this year?
Now that Halloween and Bonfire Night have passed, we’re certainly in the Christmas spirit and on best behaviour here at Spectrum HQ. The Christmas party is booked, and we’ve launched our Giftmas section for all you organised shoppers already making a start on your lists.
But are you lovelies feeling as festive as us, or are you holding out until December? Let’s find out with the latest round-up of responses from our weekly Twitter chat.
Have You Started Christmas Shopping Yet? If Not, When Do You Start?
We love a good bargain, so we’ll often pick up a few presents in the Black Friday sales. However, we do start shopping early! Is this unusual? Well, actually, it seems most of our Spectrum sisters are the same…
Yes. I’m finished. I start in August (habit as a single parent for years) and build it up every month. It’s a joy to begin December and not rush anything. I get to enjoy the festive season

An August start – how organised is that! We’re too busy soaking up the sun to think about Christmas until at least October.
Yep! I'm always on the lookout for potential gifts for my family and friends, and make sure that I have them in plenty of time

This sounds amazing to be honest, though others prefer a later start.
No, not yet, I start in Black Friday or the first week of December

Whenever you start your Christmas shopping, we hope you find exactly what you’re looking for!
Do You Prefer Online Christmas Shopping, or Instore?
Buying online is so convenient (when you’re on a first name basis with the postman – like us – you know you like it a bit too much!). On the other hand, we love a day out shopping with our besties, especially in the run-up to Christmas. There’s something so magical about exploring the streets under the sparkly Christmas lights, shopping bags in hand.
Last year wasn’t the same, as many of us took precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, will you be back out and about, or do you prefer the comfort and safety of ordering from your sofa?
Well, the majority said online Christmas shopping is a must for the best deals and fewer stock concerns.
Both but mostly online at Christmas easier to find who has the better deals

But then again, you don’t have to pick just one! ‘Both’ was a pretty popular opinion too, and we can’t argue.
A bit of both really. Sometimes you get a better deal online, but I also like seeing things in person in store before I buy

Do You Prefer Pre-Wrapped Gifts, or Wrapping Them Yourself?
Gift wrapping can be time consuming – especially if you lose the end of the sticky tape – but there’s something so satisfying about a perfectly smooth wrap, and it totally gets us in the festive spirit. Well, we asked your opinion, and it seems a lot of you agree.
I enjoy the wrapping process. I like watching a Christmas movie and wrapping the gifts. I would prefer to have them unwrapped so I could make sure the item is not broken etc. 💖🎄

Checking your gifts are perfect before wrapping is such a good idea, especially if you’ve ordered online. Then again, not all of us are natural wrappers.
My wrapping skills are rubbish..always end up with loads of paper at one end.. and not enough at the other..! 😊

If you don’t know where to start when it comes to how to wrap the perfect present, you’re in luck!
We’ve made gifting that little bit easier with our bundles that are delivered gift wrapped in a luxury keepsake gift box. And, our new Disney giftables are presented in limited edition plastic-free bags.
They make the ideal surprise Christmas gifts! If you can bear to give them away, that is.
Talking of surprises…
Do You Like Surprise Gifts or Choosing Your Own?
Christmas gift giving is a fine art. Finding the perfect present is hard for certain people and sometimes it’s easier just to ask!
If you’re anything like us, you’ve had a list to Santa saved in your phone since September and have mastered the skill of dropping hints. We don’t think we could have said it better than Lin does…
A4. Surprises are very nice but Ideas are special #SpectrumTalks

Though, Christmas is not all about receiving of course. It is the season of giving after all.
I usually give some sort of wishlist of what I would like so that the ones who wants to gift me can choose from there, it’s like a seudo-surprise
— Ilean Angulo (@alienUnicorn__) November 9, 2021
This sounds like the best of both worlds!
What’s Your Favourite Kind of Gift to Give?
A lot of people say people gift what they want to receive. We can believe that, as we found gift cards are a firm favourite. And ultimately, thoughtful gifts will remain supreme for Christmas 2021 it seems.
A gift that means more than words can say. One of my friends was burgled shortly before Christmas a few years ago, and her favourite backpack was stolen with her college portfolio in. Being able to replace it for her and see her face as she opened her gift was just a joy! 💙

This is so heart-warming!
Gifts from small businesses, thoughtful, handmade! Those are the type of gifts I love to give xxx
— Joanne Hedges (@JoanneHedges5) November 9, 2021
We love this and we totally agree. Taking the time to find gifts that are extra special is so worth it, especially if they come from a cute little business with great values.
